Ask any of your friends about some great waterproof smartphones and if he or she knows a bit about this topic, they’re going to talk about Android models. Because let’s face it, some of them are pretty good at diving underwater. But have ever wondered if you can get a waterproof iPhone 6S too?
Will it sink?
A couple of tech reviewers wanted to see how long can the new iPhone resist underwater, even though the Cupertino-based manufacturer doesn’t pitch this feature in its marketing materials. Surprisingly or not, it seems that the waterproof iPhone 6S is real, in some way or another. See for yourselves:
Of course, it’s very curious to see what makes the phone(s) able to deal with water, so the folks over iFixit, a website specialized in tearing down iDevices took apart the phone in order to see if we’re indeed dealing with a waterproof iPhone 6S.
Did Apple think about clumsy users?
Apparently, what makes the phone able to survive underwater is an adhesive forming a gasket going around the perimeter of the phone. Besides this, they also spotted silicone seals protecting the connectors from inside the phone.
It seems that this sticky gasket is something new for iPhones, as older models were held together just by screws. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you should start submerging it immediately, now that you know that you have a waterproof iPhone 6S.
Actually, waterproof is too much said, since the handset is just water resistant. Don’t take it to the pool or in the hot tub, trying to take underwater photos. Take advantage of this feature just in extreme moments, when you need to answer the phone when it’s raining outside, when you accidentally drop it in water or any other accident that implies water. If you really want to take it for a swim, just by a waterproof iPhone 6S case!
