What was considered a thing of the very-far-future a few years ago it’s finally happening. If you ever dream about the day when you’ll be able to control all your appliances and electronic with your smartphone or tablet, we have some great news for you!
Siri, turn the lights on!
According to TechCrunch, Apple’s HomeKit will begin its rollout to actual consumers, as the first batch of enabled accessories are now available for ordering. Basically, all these products will sync with your iOS device, so, via Siri, you have the possibility to control them.
For the moment, there are only a few devices available, one of them being Elgato Eve, a set of connected sensors, monitoring factors like indoor air quality, temperature, humidity or even outside temperature and air pressure.
Another member of the HomeKit family is ecobee3, a climate control system designed for houses with multiple rooms. It allows users to check temperatures from multiple places, in order to save energy and maximize comfort. Also, it can be controlled using Siri, which is awesome, if you ask us.
Finally, our favorite is Insteon Hub! Using HomeKit, you can connect a wide range of Insteon devices, like LED bulbs, lamps, thermostats, door locks or cameras, just by using your iOS device. And, in order to make things even better, the newest version of the app will work with HomeKit-enabled devices from other manufacturers.
It’s just the beginning!
Of course, it will be long until consumers will seriously start considering all these devices, because, first of all, they’re far from being affordable. Anyway, this is a great example of how technology can be used even for some of the most basic tasks and we’re looking forward to seeing even more compatible devices.
Any first thoughts about Apple’s HomeKit? Would you use it?
