The battle: Mac vs. Windows

Last updated on August 6, 2014 By Daniel Dob Leave a Comment

The world of computers has two main rivals, and chances are that you already know what we’re talking about. These two operating systems have been the sources of thousands of debates related to which one is better for many years. Since the first computers were built, these two operating systems have shaped the way computers evolved and pretty much created a strong evolution in the world of industrial, but also personal computers. Without further ado, here it is: Mac vs. Windows!mac-vs-pc1

Price:

Chances are that you’re already aware of the great differences in price between these two operating systems. Creating a Mac vs. Windows post wouldn’t be possible, without keeping this factor in mind, which is pretty much crucial to the decisions that people make.

Macs are a lot more expensive when compared to Windows PCs. Of course, there are high end versions of both models which cost about the same, but new Windows PCs can be found at around $200 or even less whereas you cannot really find a Mac under $800. There are a number of reasons behind why the numbers are different and you’ll be able to notice most throughout this post.

Ease of use:

There isn’t really a computer which can be considered very easy to use. Operating a Mac or Windows computer does require a bit of technological knowledge, but people can become proficient one or both of the systems without much difficulty.

However, Apple has been known to love ease of use a lot, this being a reason why so many updates orientated at this aspect have been issues in the last couple of years. Of course, Windows also had its own ease of use improvements, but polls suggest that it would be easier for someone who has never had access to a computer to learn how to use a Mac. However, an important thing to remember is that regardless of which platform you’re used to, learning how to operate on another one shouldn’t be much of a challenge at all.

Creativity:

Both computer platforms can be used for creative tasks such as editing and producing video and music. Together with this, photo editing also represents a process that can be enjoyed by users both on Mac but also Windows.

However, Macs are known to further encourage creativity, as Apple also offers a couple of programs that can be used in order to edit videos, music and photos with each Mac sold. These can be easily used by any beginner and can craft a path that perhaps they’ll follow later in life.

Gaming:

Here is where Macs don’t succeed like they’re expected to. While a computer running the Apple software may be great at a wide variety of tasks, it just seems like gaming isn’t its strongest point. Apple computers have been known not to have specs designed for gaming. Another disappointing fact is that not many gaming companies make the investment needed in order to offer their games to Mac OS X platforms as well.

When compared to its rival, Macs do have a couple of games that can be played, but it’s nothing when we think about the thousands of great titles that are available exclusively on Windows computers.

Security:

As we live in the era of the Internet, cybernetic attacks are getting more and more frequent as each day passes. It seems like antivirus companies and computer manufactures are trying their best in order to keep up with the latest threads, but hackers always seem to find a way around.

Due to the way they are built, Macs are known to not attract severe attention when it comes down to getting infected with viruses including malware, adware, key loggers and more. This doesn’t mean that Macs are immune, but you’ll be much safer with an unprotected Mac than with an unprotected Windows computer. Regardless of this, paying close attention at the things you do online while also installing a good antivirus represent great ways of dealing with the latest online threads.

Bottom Line:

For us it seems like we cannot really decide which of these two platforms is better. Both offer extensive solutions for the everyday computer users, but there are also certain advantages and disadvantages to both platforms.

So, what do you think when it comes down to the main question: Mac vs. Windows? Would you rather purchase a Windows or Mac computer if money wouldn’t be a problem at all?
