The Apple Watch features a hidden port which can be used for charging!

Last updated on January 7, 2017 By Andrei Klein Leave a Comment

Even though it already has some time on the market and avid fans finally managed to get their hands on it, it seems that the Apple Watch it still hiding some secrets. It is still unknown why the Cupertino-based manufacturer doesn’t acknowledge this on thier website or in the device’s manual, but the thing is that we were very surprise after hearing about this.

What does this port do?

To be more specific, if you remove the bottom band, you’ll notice a hidden port which seems to be placed there because Apple doesn’t want consumers to mess with it, according to The Verge, being put there just for internal use.

But it was a shame to leave this port unveiled in mystery, so one accessory maker is going to actually use it for charging the Apple Watch. Despite the fact that everybody knows that this can be done only wireless, it seems that the above mentioned accessory manufacturer has found a way of charging the smartwatch way faster through the six-pin port.

Even more, they designed a special bracelet, called Reserve Strap, which is going to use the work as an extra battery and charge the Apple Watch on the go. As you can see, the port is covered by a metal door and Apple doesn’t provide any tool for opening it, but the bracelet will actually come with one as soon as it hits the market.

That price, though…

Priced at $249, the Reserve Strap battery band will be available starting with this fall and we’re very curious how Apple will react after hearing that a third party manufacturer will use their hidden port. Most likely, a future firmware update for the Apple Watch will disable it, followed by releasing their own bracelet with an integrated battery.

What do you think about this? Should accessory manufacturers be allowed to exploit this port?
