Signs Your Mac may be sick

Last updated on May 9, 2016 By James Harisson Leave a Comment

There is absolutely no question that the Apple Macintosh computer is a great device. However, it is not impervious to problems and errors. In some cases, it acts funny and you have no idea why. If this happens and you have a lot going on, you may ignore the issue and not bother to have it fixed.

After all, your Mac is completely invincible, right? Well, that’s not entirely true.

Some of the warning signs that your Mac needs some help can be found here. Taking note of these and taking action when necessary can help save you a lot of frustration down the road.

Question Marks and Logos

In some situations, your Mac will freeze on a picture when getting started. Some images you may see including the Apple logo, a question mark that flashes on a folder or circles with a slash. Regardless of the image, this is a sign of trouble and one that should not be ignored.

Freezing on the Logo

If this occurs, or you see a spinning gear, it may mean the computer has a corrupt OSX installation. It may also be an issue with the computer finding an external or internal hardware part. While this is rare, it is still a possibility. In some situations, restarting the device in Safe Mode can be beneficial. If this doesn’t work, then doing an Archive and Install may be the better option.

Wild Tones and Light when Started

If you notice weird start-up tones, besides the chime that Mac users sometimes get, this is a sign of bad RAM. The noise you need to look for is a single beep or a series of three beeps. Another sign to be aware of is sleep lights that blink. This is not good.

However, RAM is not the only problem that may be present. Another issue could be a bad power manager, logic board or video card. The bottom line is that something is going on and wrong. It should be looked at if you don’t know how to fix it yourself.

In many cases, your Mac will be able to be fixed. However, if it is beyond repair, it may be time to think about a new purchase. If this is the case, it is a good idea to look into refurbished & used mac computers at DVWarehouse. This is an excellent source of machines and can provide you with a quality product at a fraction of the cost of a new device.
