The OnePlus One was by far the most pleasant tech surprise of 2014, and a big role in this was played by the operating system, CyanogenMod. Still, the team decided to go on a different path, thus the OxygenOS was born.
Because stock Android is unbeatable
Based on Android Lollipop 5.0.2, the new operating system is offering what we like to call a “very close to stock Android” experience, in terms of functionality and of course, looks, according to ZDNet.
The main purpose of OxygenOS is to “provide fast, more meaningful updates and a better-integrated range of services for every OnePlus user”, said Carl Pei, one of OnePlus’ co-founders. Besides this, the operating system is aiming to improve battery life, while keeping it light, without bloatware or any unnecessary apps.
When it comes to the design, you will observe a very high resemblance to stock Android, but the team from OnePlus made sure some extra features are present, in order to improve the user experience and differentiate themselves from Google’s mobile operating system.
Gesture support = win
One of these features is gesture support, through which you can draw gesture on the screen of the OnePlus One, in order to quickly launch apps. For example, drawing a circle on the display, while it’s locked, will automatically open the camera app.
Secondly, the quick settings were improved. You can now reorder the tiles and choose the ones you want to see. It’s not something that big, but sometimes, it’s the little details which make the difference.
For the moment, the OxygenOS update is not available over-the-air, but if you want to give it a try, you can go to oneplus.net/oxygenos, where you can find all the details about the new operating system and how to install it on your OnePlus One.
So, anybody around here who already has it? What do you think about OxygenOS?
