Oppo has filed a patent for a bezel-less display

Last updated on January 7, 2017 By Andrei Klein Leave a Comment

The Chinese manufacturer Oppo is well-known for taking the design of their devices to a phone new level, by introducing amazingly slim smartphones, fact revealed by the latest rumors regarding the Oppo R7. Still, they’re planning to take things to a whole new level, by introducing a bezel-less display.

Less bezel, more fun

According to GSM Arena, who posted an exclusive leak with a patent filed by Oppo, the manufacturer might have found the perfect way of creating a true edge-to-edge display. But the thing is that this so-called bezel-less display will actually have bezels, but slimmed down in such way that they will look as they are not there.

The same source mentions that the technology which will be used by Oppo implies covering the regular rectangular display with a panel featuring a “special light guide structure”, which will create the no-bezel effect.

Not just for flagships

If right now curved displays are the latest trend, as most important manufacturers are looking forward to developing handsets with such technology, if Oppo manages to bring this new type of display into production, a lot more phones, not just flagships, could feature it.

An affordable display with a bezel-less display wouldn’t be that bad, right? Still, Oppo’s technology is currently under development and we need to wait for a few more months in order to see how the process went.

Any first thoughts about this? For how many of you is the size of the bezels an important aspect in a smartphone? Share your thoughts about this idea in the comments section below.
