How to use the iPhone’s setup assistant

Last updated on December 26, 2014 By Daniel Dob Leave a Comment

After tons of users left complaints referring to the fact that they were not really aware on how to use the iPhone at first, Apple has decided to simplify the process of setting up their mobile devices. Now, when an iPhone is turned on for the first time, users will be promoted to do a couple of things, in order to ensure that everything goes ahead as planned.  Today, we’ll take a look at the process and explain everything in detail.

  1. Turn on the iPhone

This can be easily done by pressing the button on the top of the device if you have the iPhone 5S or an older model.  In the case that you happen to have the iPhone 6, then you’ll have to press the button on the right side for a couple of seconds until the device turns on and the Apple logo appears on the screen.

  1. Connecting to the Internet

Once your device has turned on for the first time, you will have the possibility to set up an Internet connection. With this in mind, if you are home, simply let your iPhone scan for Wi-Fi networks and enter your password in the case that you have one.1

  1. Signing in with your Apple ID or creating one

After you have connected to the Internet, the setup assistant will ask you to sign in with your Apple ID. In the case that you do not have one, simply press register and the device will guide you through the process of setting up an Apple ID, which is extremely easy and should not take more than a couple of minutes.

  1. Setting up iCloud

Chances are that you may be interested in using Cloud storage for your device, to easily share files and have access to them regardless of where you are. If this is the case, then simply follow the steps that the device will give you in order to set up your iCloud and log in.2

  1. Carrier activation

Once all of these steps have been completed and you have inserted the SIM card into the device, your iPhone will go ahead and ask you to activate it with your carrier. Now, this process differs based on the carriers that you are on, but it mostly requires receiving an SMS in order to make sure that the mobile network connection is established.

  1. Copy your apps/settings/contacts/content

In the case that this isn’t your first iPhone, then you’ll be granted the chance of copying all of the content from your old iPhone to your new one, thanks to the iCloud or iTunes backups that you may have asked for in the past. In the case that this isn’t the case, you can simply skip the step.

  1. Enjoy your device!

This represents the end of the Apple setup assistant. Once your iPhone is activated, you can easily take advantage of all of the great features that it offers, make calls, browse the Internet, send text messages and so much more!

If you have any other questions refering to how to use the iPhone, then simply leave a comment below and we’ll do our best to give you an answer.
