How to use the iPhone’s Apple Pay feature

Last updated on December 26, 2014 By Daniel Dob Leave a Comment

Chances are that you may have heard about Apple Pay, the great platform that Apple has set up with the sole idea of making cash obsolete and to bring in the future form of payment: the smartphone. In the case that you have an iPhone 6, then you may be interested in finding out how to set up the platform and how to use the iPhone 6 with it accordingly, then you’re at the right place. apple-pay-tim-cook

  1. Make sure that your device is compatible

In order to have access to the app, you’ll need to have the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus for both online and offline payments or the iPad Air 2/ iPad Mini 3 for online payments within apps. Additionally, users will also need to have iOS 8.1 or later installed, have Touch ID set up, an iCloud account, a credit card from a supported bank and be residents of the United States. If you’re unsure about how to use the iPhone’s Touch ID, simply head over here for more information.

These may seem like many requirements, but the truth is that if you are in the United States and have a new iDevice, you probably abide by all of them.

  1. Adding a credit card.

  • Add the card that you already use for your iTunes account

In the case that you currently have an iTunes account, then chances are that you may also have a card linked to it. Once you get into the Apple Pay app, simply pull down the pass stack and tap the + found in the upper right corner of the device. Once this is done, select ‘Use Card on File with iTunes’, enter the security code for the credit card that you’re using with iTunes and then tap next. Once this is done, the system will go ahead and verify if you’re eligible to use the platform. In the case that everything is alright, then you’ll be able to use Apple Pay as soon as your card is verified.HT6361_iOS8_pass-stack

  • Adding a new credit card

In the case that you currently don’t have any credit card linked to your iTunes account, then you’ll have to add a new one using the platform itself. To do this, click Set Up Apple Pay, pull down the pass stack and press the + found in the upper right corner of the screen. Once this is done, select ‘Use a different credit or debit card’. Now, you’ll be able to either take a picture of your card so that the details can be put in automatically or place them in manually. Once the details and the security code have been entered, the system will go ahead and verify whether your card is eligible. Once this is done, your card will be activated and ready to use with Apple Pay.

  1. Use Apple Pay in Stores

Apple Pay allows users to make payments by simply scanning their fingerprint and touching the iPhone to an NFC receiver in a shop that supports Apple Pay. First of all, you’ll need to make sure that the store you’re in supports the platform. To do so, simply look for the following symbols:

If it does, once your items have been scanned, simple touch your device to the contactless reader while you have your finger held on the Touch ID (make sure not to press it).Symbol

  1. Use Apple Pay within apps

To use Apple Pay within apps, you’ll first need an app that supports the use of the platform. Once you’ve decided to buy something, simply tap the ‘Pay with Apple Pay’ button. Once this is done, you can go ahead and scan your fingerprint. If everything is alright, a ‘Done’ message should appear on the screen.HT6361_in_app_2-en
