Grid-Style App Switcher with Griddy

Last updated on January 26, 2016 By Daniel Dob Leave a Comment

It seems that there will never be a shortage of good App Switcher jailbreak tweak. Developers keep finding new, creative ways of enhancing the App Switcher and brining better user experience to the table. Griddy is aiming to achieve just that by offering users a grid-style App Switcher.

Intuitive Grid App Switcher

Griddy is available via BigBoss’s repo on Cydia. You can download and install the tweak for a small fee of $1.99. It is a premium jailbreak tweak, but after trying it I find that Griddy is worth every penny simply because it offers a unique App Switcher user experience compared to other App Switcher tweaks.

I do have to remind you, though: you either really like Griddy, or simply find the grid-style App Switcher to be too much. With the grid-style layout, Griddy allows you to switch between apps rather easily. You can scroll less and access more apps on the same page. The grid is a 3×3 one, featuring previews of apps you can switch to.

Once the tweak is installed, you can als
o access a Settings pane to customize the Griddy experience. Griddy supports multiple gestures and there is a very handy Gestures Guide to help you learn more about them in just a few minutes. You can also use the Respring menu to apply changes whenever necessary.

You can also change the size and scale of the grid, along with the size of the icon and whether the icons should be displayed along with previews. Lastly, you can also change the background blur intensity to suit your personal preference.

App Switcher Done Right

As I said before, I find the grid layout to be much more intuitive than the standard cards. I can see more opened apps on the same window and switch between the more recent apps easily. As always, the most recent app is displayed on the top left of the screen, and the remaining apps follow.

You can also configure Griddly to work in landscape mode. The grid is changed to 2×2 by default, but this too can be customized to your liking. You can even set the grid to appear vertical even when your phone is in landscape mode.

Gestures work really well. You can tap to open an app and double-tap to close it. You can also swipe to close an app; swipe left/right in vertical mode, and up/down in horizontal mode. Lastly, you can pinch to adjust the size of the grid directly in the App Switcher.
