Fix iTunes Activation Error While Installing iOS 7 Beta

There are no doubts that iOS 7 has attracted lots of iPhone and iPad users. It has forced many jailbreak lovers to leave their Jailbreak statuses and adopt the all new iOS 7 user-interface while it is in beta version. Less than a month ago, Apple has seeded iOS 7 beta 1 to developers and then beta 2 to follow up with the improvements and fixes. We have noticed that a major amount of iOS users are now running iOS 7 beta 2 on their devices, and as well as there are large number of users who are waiting for tips and tricks that allow them to update their device to iOS 7 beta without any mind-sucking iTunes error.

If you are an experience iOS users then you must be aware of iTunes activation errors that prevent iPhone / iPad users to update their devices to latest beta versions for unknown reasons. Actually, there are couple of reasons that stop users from installing the iOS 7 beta on their devices, and Apple wants to try each and every possible way to keep public users away from beta versions. The reason is very simple, it hurts their brand image in public. As per beta versions are for developers, and not stable iOS versions that are not recommended to load on daily usage devices.

However, I am not here to advocate iOS issues. Just here to share a quick tip that allow users to avoid iOS 7 activation error in iTunes or you can say that iTunes Activation Error. The process is very simple, but only if you are well aware of your iOS device, and it’s some hidden features / menus. The iOS 7 Activation iTunes Error comes when a basic user try to install iOS 7 beta on iPhone / iPad without registering UDID of device. The first and easiest way to get rid of iTunes Activation Error is register the UDID of your device. But, since we are here for those users who have no access to any developer in their area, and they cannot afford registering their device UDID.

The Correct Way to Install iOS 7 Beta: Avoiding iTunes Activation Error

While updating to latest iOS 7 beta 1 / beta 2 / or any beta, you should download the complete iOS 7 beta IPSW file from this page. Once you get the iOS 7 beta file downloaded on your desktop. Simply connect your iPhone, and launch latest iTunes to update your device.

On iTunes you will be greeted with “Update” and “Restore” button. You have to carefully go with “Update” option. You can open up custom IPSW file selector window, by pressing SHIFT & click on “Update” button.  The “Update” option will install the iOS 7 beta safely on your device, and will totally avoid the iTunes Activation Error.

However, if you have mistakenly clicked on “Restore” button. Then you have to wait, and let the iTunes to first remove your old iOS version from your device completely, and then install the iOS 7 beta. But this time, it will stuck in the final stage (where iTunes connect with Apple server to verify the device), and shows an iTunes Activation Error.

To resolve iTunes Activation Error, you have to first put your device into DFU mode, and then again have to install iOS 7 beta with “update” option.

How to Enter DFU Mode

  1. Plug your device into your computer.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Hold the Power button for 3 seconds
  4. Hold the Home button without releasing the Power button for 10 seconds
  5. Release the Power Button but keep holding the Home button
  6. Keep holding the Home button until you are alerted by iTunes saying that it has detected a device in Recovery Mode

Make sure the device screen is blank and no logos are present

How to Exit DFU Mode

Hold Home and Power Button till the Apple Logo appears
