Clear iPhone Apps Cache and Data with CacheCleaner

Last updated on December 7, 2016 By Hamza Sheikh Leave a Comment

Buildup of cache in apps in your iOS devices such as iPhone/iPad makes them slow and at times unresponsive.  Unfortunately, there is no way you can clear cache of iPhone apps through device settings.  So, in this post we will discuss a way to solve this issue and see how we can clear cache of iPhone apps.

If you’ve felt that your iPhone/iPad is not working smoothly like before, most probably it’s because of cache.  Cache is the temporary information stored by apps to give you better performance.  For example, when you visit a webpage using Safari or Chrome, it saves some information about that website in browser cache.  Next time when you visit that webpage again, it will load faster.

Clear cache of iPhone: Quick Loading Time vs Performance

Though cache improves performance for the apps, but it also hoards on your device.  It takes more time for the apps to load themselves because of the data they have stored in their cache.  The apps not only take more time to load but also sometimes become unresponsive.  Therefore, you need to clear cache of your iPhone or iPad frequently to prevent unnecessary data buildup.

If you don’t clear cache of iPhone, apps will keep on hoarding information and taking up more and more space.  Since you don’t have any option to delete data or clear cache of iPhone apps, the only solution left is to Jailbreak your device.

Clear iPhone Apps Cache by CacheCleaner

If you Jailbreak your device you can clear cache of your iPhone apps by Cache Cleaner.  It is a Cydia tweak that lets you clear cache of your iPhone, app by app.  If you don’t want to Jailbreak your device to clear cache, you have only one option left.  Delete the app and reinstall it.  But the con is that deleting an app will not only delete the cache but also user data stored in the app.  User data means your login information, preferences and permissions, etc.

If you clear cache of your iPhone app by Cache Cleaner, you can choose whether to remove only the cache or reset the app entirely.  Cache Cleaner adds these options right in the Settings app of your iOS device.

How to Clear iPhone App Cache with CacheCleaner

  1. Open Cydia
  2. Go to Sources > Edit
  3. Add http://rpetri.ch/repo
  4. Install Cache Cleaner and tap confirm when prompted.
  5. Wait for installation to conclude and reboot your iOS device.

Cache Cleaner is absolutely free and is compatible with Jailbreak on iOS 9 and higher.  Now to clear cache of your iPhone apps, go to Settings > General > Storage & iCloud Usage > Manage Storage.  This will open the list of all apps in your iOS device iPhone/iPad which you can manage.  The app list is arranged on the basis of storage space they consume with the heaviest apps on the top.

To manage your device storage you need to clear cache of iPhone apps on the top of this list.  Otherwise you can choose any app.  Tap an app to manage its storage.  Before you install the app Cache Cleaner, there was only one option available to you i.e. “Delete app.”  But now you will find two more options: “Clear App’s cache” and “Reset.”

‘Clear App’s Cache’ to clear cache of iPhone app

  1. Tap an app to view available options.
  2. Tap on ‘Clear App’s Cache.’
  3. This will remove all the cache for this app.

‘Reset App’ to clear cache and Data

  1. Tap an app to view available options.
  2. Tap on ‘Reset App.’
  3. This will remove cache as well as user data such as login information, permissions, etc.

Hope Cache Cleaner solves your storage issues as well as laggy iOS device.  You can also try out iCleaner, another Cydia tweak to clear cache from iPhone apps.
