How to Block Unknown Callers / Know Who’s Calling on iPhone

Last updated on February 22, 2017 By Hamza Sheikh Leave a Comment

If you’re fed up of ‘No Caller ID’ calls, let’s tell you how to block unknown callers on your iPhone.  The method is too simple and it only needs a little configuration of Settings app in your iPhone.  There are also a couple of tweaks that give you further ability to either block unknown Callers or know who’s calling on your iPhone before you accept the call.

Apple has an obsession with your privacy and therefore it has inbuilt settings to let you block unknown callers from disturbing you.  No need to install any additional or third-party app for this basic function.  Most ‘No Caller ID’ callers are scammers or else advertising companies so you really don’t need to be bothered by them, right?

First of all, let’s see how you can block unknown callers by changing the settings of your iPhone.

Block Unknown Callers on iPhone Easily

Blocking unknown callers from the Settings of your iPhone is a quick and easy method.  But this is not an ideal method or a long-term solution.  We will tell you why in a minute.  First let’s see how you block unknown callers from Settings app.

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone
  2. Enable Do Not Disturb
  3. Tap on ‘Allow Calls From…’
  4. Now select ‘All Contacts’

What you’ve basically done is that you’ve set your iPhone in Do Not Disturb mode and have chosen only the calls from your Contacts to come through.  But there is a great disadvantage.

If you block unknown callers with ‘Do Not Disturb,’ you will not get calls from numbers not stored in your contacts list.  Now imagine a relative or friends calls you from a new number not yet stored in your contacts, they won’t be able to reach you.  Similarly, any new contacts will not be able to call you and their calls will be blocked.

To overcome this issue, there are a couple of Cydia tweaks that I would like to introduce to you.  These tweaks are much more practical and give you a long-term solution at the same time making sure you don’t miss any important calls.

Block unknown callers with ‘No Caller ID’ Blocker

‘No Caller ID’ blocker gives you the flexibility not offered by Do Not Disturb method to block unknown callers.  This Cydia tweaks blocks only those calls for which there is no ‘No Caller ID’ available.  It’s a free tweak from BigBoss repo and you can install the package, activate it and use it right away.

There is no need to change the Settings or enabling Do Not Disturb on your iPhone.  It blocks the unknown callers but logs the calls as usual in your call register.  So you won’t miss any call and won’t get disturbed as well.  This Jailbreak tweak is compatible with iOS 8 and 9.

Know who’s calling on your iPhone with PhoneCaller

PhoneCaller doesn’t block unknown callers but lets you know who’s calling on your iPhone before you accept it.  It identifies most of the numbers such as from advertising companies or known scamming numbers.  It is a paid tweak and works with an app called TrueCaller.

  1. Launch Cydia
  2. Go to BigBoss repository and look for PhoneCaller
  3. Buy PhoneCaller tweak and install it
  4. Download and install TrueCaller from iTunes.

Now when you’ll receive a call, instead of ‘No Caller ID,’ PhoneCaller will identify the number for you and display it on the screen.  Similarly, if you call an unknown number, it looks it up and tries to find the Caller ID for that number.

Useful features of PhoneCaller

  • Compact mode only shows a simple text style for Caller’s ID
  • Identify and save caller ID from any app by just swiping the number.
  • Select the display duration for Caller info.
  • Compatible with iOS 7 to iOS 10
