The high demand for larger iPhones pushed Apple to release the 4,7-inch iPhone 6 and 5,5-inch iPhone 6 Plus in 2014. Despite the success of both devices, Apple may be returning to the old 4-inch form factor in 2015, offering users the same one-handed usability as older iPhones but with great new improvement.
The rumour initiated from a note written by Timothy Arcuri of Cowen and Company to investors. Arcuri pointed out the possibility of three iPhone models being released in 2015, one of them being the affordable, 4-inch model iPhone dubbed the iPhone 6s Mini.
Arcuri isn’t alone either. Sources within Apple’s supply chain in China have also suggested that the 2015 iPhone line-up will include a cheaper 4-inch model as a replacement for the iPhone 5C. It will bear the same curved design as the iPhone 6, improved specifications and the latest iOS iteration.
As far as rumours go, it is difficult to judge whether Arcuri’s note is accurate. There is definitely a market for a 4-inch iPhone, particularly among those who truly enjoy Apple’s take on usability. Although the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are both very nice to use, there are still users who prefer the smaller form factor; a very interesting prospect indeed.
